So this is what happens...

Made at my home 'studio' yesterday. This is a severe crop of the file since I don't possess a macro lens for the Canon - yet. So, though a beauty, it isn't of sufficient quality to print.

Sunflowers

The sunflowers at Travgor's garden have begun to bloom.

Rehearsal last night at the Wilson's. Reviewed pieces. My Precious Dream and Kashmir require the most attention. Bob suggested a 'magic chord' whizz as a new opener for one of the pieces and I settled myself inside the circle to listen. (The space at the Wilson's is pretty small, and the circle pretty tightly packed, so I usually settle outside the circle on a comfy chair.) It took a while to get a good whizz going - and eventually, the best one resulted from ascending magic chords, and an even better one when the individual notes of the ascending chords were whizzed successively but in descending order.

Earlier in the day I'd picked up the posters from Andrew, so I brought them to rehearsal for distribution. The fall season begins...

A Saturday

Walked to dinner last night to see Lost Pedro perform at Yanni's. Was stopped by the sky along the way...
Saw this inadvertent calligraphy in a window store front. Examined many ways of making an image but all were marred by what was reflected in the window - until I decided to make myself the subject of the reflection.
Here's Lost Pedro in action.
The food at Yanni's doesn't agree with me. I'll need to remember that in the future.

Fog

Yesterday's morning walk was in deep, deep fog.

Spent much of the day at the computer preparing Tuning the Air publicity materials. That and the first steps of job hunting.

At Trinity center this morning for 8am guitar calisthenics. Later the larger team gathered for circulations. Those of us who went to the course in Massachussetts, shared what we'd experienced with those who did not go. Bill R. shared a circulation that I missed. (No doubt it was one of the days I was working in the kitchen.) After about 90 minutes of various approaches to circulating, we took a break and the TTA musicans circled up for their first rehearsal for the fall season. Andrew was missing, so pieces requiring the full team were not addressed. It was beautiful to watch the team warm up. They began with Onyx, which was a little clumsy, but nonetheless rollicking. By the time the Turkish Suite was over it mostly felt as though there had been no break. Yes, some parts were rough and even entirely forgotten, but something remained whole despite these roughnesses. Eleanor Rigby was stunning even with gross mistakes.

During the break, I assembled the A-frame with the new enlarged posters I printed up yesterday. And got an idea for the funky wooden sandwich board....

Los Pedro is playing tonight at Yanni's. Looks like a night out.

A detour in Boston

Arrived home late last night from Boston. I'd spent ten days in Royalston Massachussetts attending the Special Circulation Project at Camp Caravan.

Storms in Chicago delayed my return by one day. United put me up at the Logan Hilton and I had a chance to stroll through Boston's Beacon Hill for a few hours while waiting for my rescheduled flight.

Latte & Croissant in Beacon Hill

Finally at 10:20pm Monday night, I arrived at SeaTac. Igor was there to pick me up and found himself in a phenomenal trafic jam despite the late hour. It took him nearly an hour to get from the airport cell phone lot (where cars can wait for a cell phone call from their arriving passengers) to the arrivals curb. It was mayhem!

I am still not used to associating SeaTac with 'coming home', always expecting the familar outlines of the SF Bay geography to come into view. More study of this lanscape is required for me to 'know' it.

In the next few days, I'll back-post an entry or two about the course.

Traveling

Bill W visits Seattle. He's here for a family reunion and dropped by for lunch. Aterwards, we went to Travgor's to water the garden and he befriended this cat.

Buds have appeared on some of the sunflowers. They may blossom before I return.

I can't say I'm a perfectionist, but planning for travel always brings out something compulsive in me. As if not having my preferred shampoo or lotion would ruin the trip. I even bought, and then later returned, a piece of carry-on luggage because I thought it would be lighter than my present carry-on suitcase. It wasn't. My friend Gitta has traveling down to a science and I envy her. Of course, she accepts the notion of checking baggage and I do not. Even my many trips to Europe were accomplished without checking a bag - except for one silly incident in London when a water bottle tipped my bag over the weight limit. Had I remembered and removed that bottle, my no-check record would have been spotless. This trip requires that I check something and it will most likely be my guitar - something I have never done before. Yikes!

Preparations

The sunflowers (and squash and arugula) continue to grow over at Travgor's yard.

And checking through my images from last week I also found this one of a rose on the fence in Gitta's yard.

On the Tuning the Air front, the team has decided to have a 5-week season at Trinity (at the old venue) followed by a 10-week run at the Capital Hill Arts Center. While not as risky as the alternative consideration (the Heath Printer Building) it is still a stretch for the team. I've been working on the publicity materials that need to be set in motion before I leave later this week. Here's the poster for the CHAC gig. I still haven't figured out how to explain these two seasons on the TTA website...

Quite another week!

It was a productive week this past week, with two and a half days spent in the darkroom.Though plagued by technical difficulties and paper manufacturing flaws, I still hope to have
paintable work from this session and look forward to my next chance to get into the darkroom.
The paper flaws were frustrating as this is the Agfa 118 - a paper that is no longer available. Each sheet I use is one sheet less in my precious horde of paper.

Working backwards through the week, I met with the Salonistas, hosted graciously and impeccably by Gitta. Good to see the whole gang again. Ted brought us copies of the new edition of his book, View from the Studio Door. He added each of the Salonistas webpage addresses to the afterward, so maybe my website with start to get a few hits!

I took advantage of Gitta's pool and swam a bit before the meeting. When Robin got there, she joined Muggs for a water photo shoot. Here's Muggs taking a dive:

Earlier in the week, Doug and Lance and I managed to meet with guitars. It has been a long, long time and it was great to circle up with them.

And last Monday, I was visiting my Sis and the kids. Had a great visit with Kelly (seen here making breakfast.)

And here's Brendan showing off his $100 Craigslist find:
