Housewarming at Igor & Lianne's

printed the final print for the Texas art consultant (whose deposit check arrived earlier in the week!) and set up the printing for two others i am giving them on consignment.

while the printer chugged away, i hightailed it over to fremont abbey to make photos of the team in the new space.

Bob arrived toward the end of the session and i snapped (at Igor's encouragement) a photo of Ian showing Bob his zither chord.

back home to finish printing. one of the images I printed today had been printed by the controversial printer back in California (the very same printer the art consultant tried to insist that I use.) this gave me yet another side-by-side comparison - and there is no question that the Behemoth produces the superlative print.

baked several loaves of bread and walked over to Igor & Lianne's new place. (it is only 10 blocks away!) while i am there, Igor tells me he had a dream and 'saw' a photograph of he and Lianne on the back porch. in the dream he was playing his 12-string. he asked if i would take the photo, so i obliged.

Another Friday

yesterday a shipment arrived that was supposed to contain a badly needed ink cartridge - but it was a different color than the yellow one that was ordered.

up late last night printing and then packing the print order for the Palo Alto gallery/art consultant. two of the prints had pinhole-sized flaws. this is a common problem with large-scale inkjet printing. finding a technique to repair such flaws has eluded me - until last night. using water-soluble pastels and a moist, fine-tip paint brush worked well. yes!!!!!

the Behemoth is now reporting that it has more yellow ink than before printing these prints! but it still reports that it is 'low' on yellow.

a day at the office:

my major task of the day? developing a history of the events leading up to the mr.b explosion over translation costs.

Zs' birthday party

DavidE's daughter turned 3 in July and yesterday was her birthday celebration. Taking quite seriously my role as a non-parental, adult influence in Z's life, I included a kazoo in her 5-part gift.

Z's cake goes beyond the usual birthday greeting and says 'Elephant!!!' It also includes an illustration of an elephant nestled in with the icing roses.

another reason to dream of california

a morning guitar lesson. simple and straightforward - and helpful. near the end of the lesson, CG asked me to listen to the difference between C D E F G A B C and G A B C D E F G and what the flat seventh did in the second series of notes. I could hear what it did as I listened, but had no memory for that quality.

off to the dayjob. the day had a dark cloud hanging over it as MrB had sent an email early in the morning, shocked and dissapointed that we had approved (and even expedited ) a translation job for a product going to market in the next month. though the instructions for the manual for this product explicitly states that it is to be available in all languages, MrB has decided he doesn't want to spend the money. the translation is nearly done, slated for delivery on Tuesday.

my colleagues and i carefully crafted an email to MrB explaining the situation.

this evening a reply from Mr. B arrives. he is insisting he does not want the translations done. this is his decision even after being informed that the job is nearly done.

Another birthday gift

On Wednesday when we had a private bash at the gallery to mark the installation of the show, the local team (& Lance) presented me with a birthday gift. A fine volume of great images and recipes - plus the valuable background of how and why various ingredients work in a recipe. I decided to give the book a try by making an apple pie - which was the first thing I had ever baked. I learned several new things about making pie - mostly having to do with using butter. Oddly enough, the dough scraps that were left over - which I used to make a few jam-filled cookies - ended up even flakier than the pie crust. The only difference being that the scraps were allowed to warm up just a little and resulted in a slightly, softer. more maleable dough.
